These jars are similar in style to the cylinder jars, with the main difference being that the “tapered” jar is squatter and takes a large lid.
Why is it called tapered when the jar has straight sides? Well, actually it comes down to semantics. In German the glass family these jars are part of is called Sturz which many English sites translate as Mould jars. We just think that is a fairly uninspiring name for such a solid jar, so we opted to name the family "tapered”. At the time, all the jars in the family actually did have tapered sides so the description was apt, however in the interim Weck has introduced the 2 largest jars in the range, the 1l and the 1.5l jars and these both have straight sides. Rather than confuse things by renaming the entire family we decided to stick with the "tapered” appellation noting that these 2 larger jars have a taper of 0!
These heavy duty jars should be the preserving staple for every household! They are ideal for preserving larger summer stone fruits, or winter crops like apples and pears. Their tall shape makes them suitable for long vegetables like beans or for pickling cucumbers and gherkins.
For dry storage, rather than the glass lid, purchase the large keep fresh lid or a wooden lid with inbuilt seal.
Takes a large (100mm) lid . Supplied complete with lid, seal and clips.
